Only somewhat off-topic:

For some time I have been annoyed with my implementation of "delete" in the Manage_X dialog. Deleting removes the line from the table implying it is deleted now, but cancel doesn't do the delete. In addition there is no convenient way to undo a delete without canceling and restarting.

I am changing it to look like the following:
Attachment 138631

Editing a deleted item will ask you if you want to undelete it.

Do you see any problems with such a change?

Adding file...

I got my new laptop. I have saved the 'Calibre' file from my old laptop. How do I add this to Calibre so I do not have to re-add all the books/files/folders individually.

Need help - Error Viewing

This is a question about Calibre E-book Viewer, not the Editor. I found no sub-forum specifically on the Viewer, so I am posting here because it's about a problem rendering text and may exist in the Editor as well.

Specifically, if I open some e-books in Calibre E-Book Viewer, some characters in the text do not render properly. This often happens with characters that are Spanish or German, and have umlauts or tildes over them.

For example, here is a screen grab of a page from an e-Book viewed in Calibre E-Book Viewer: http://i.imgur.com/QvooCEy.png

Note that names with non-English characters are mangled. In this example, the letter ñ (n with a tilde over it, like in the Spanish word niño or señorita) is mangled.

This does not happen in other E-Book Viewers. Here is the same page from the same E-Book in the Adobe Digital Editions Viewer: http://i.imgur.com/n2ed0Ww.png

Adobe Digital Editions Viewer renders the characters correctly while Calibre E-Book Viewer does not.

I thought it might be a problem with the font, that perhaps the font used doesn't have the glyphs for these Spanish or German characters. But I tried changing the font to Times New Roman, which I know contains these glyphs. The problem still remains.

Does anyone know why this is happening? How do I correct this issue?

Thanks.

Multi-plugin package

Is there a way to define a plugin package that includes multiple different plugins? I'd like to add KePub metadata reading and writing to the device plugin to resolve a bug and I'm going I can do it in the existing package so people can upgrade and get it without needing a new plugin package.

I just got a brand new I pad air and tried to upload a book to Calibre. I used to have a Kindle and did the same thing I did for it. I don't get the icon on the top which uploads the book to the device. What do I do?

Specify format in device subdirectory name

$

Is there a way to specify the format used in the subdirectory name when saving to a device?

For sample, I have a custom column called #priority. Its format is a star rating but for some reason when it prints out it adds a decimal and I just want the integer/no decimals ("5" instead of "5.0").

{#priority} {title}/{title} - {authors}

Alternatively, is there a way to fix this at the source and make this star column use integers (the stars seem to work discretely anyway)?

Reimport same library in Calibre (without Save to Disk)?

$

Hello,
Is it possible to re-import the library folder "as is" in Calibre - without using "save to disk"?
I have some files with wrong extension that are causing troubles when converting, but they are already in the library and I can't rename.
I tried to save to disk all library, but some of the files are not exported (some mobi, some docs...).
So I'm thinking what if I move the library folder in a different location (in order to keep the files), delete the library from Calibre, rename the wrong extensions and then re-import from the old library folder the files in a new library?
Would this be possible? any cons?
Thank you.

L.E.: I assume the above might be quite a stupid question, or that I should have tried at least to RTFM first. The problem is I don't know where to search for the info I need.
I don't really know how does Calibre works with the OPF files and if they are up-to-day in every moment or do i need to "commit changes" to save the information to them.
[All right I found this information - they are updated after every change in the library]
I don't know if the OPF file stores also the exact file name and extension - I opened a few, for the doc file the extension was not metioned in the OPF file. So if I rename the doc to rtf, Calibre might import the file and the opf in the same folder even if I've changed the extension?
Also, what is the db file used for?
If all the info needed is in the opf files, will calibre read them if they are just named "metadata.opf" in the same folder as the book? If yes, then I could reimport the library without saving to disk first. But what if calibre would read an opf file only if it has the same name as the book file?

L.E.2:
I did a small test and imported in a new library a subfolder of the existing library containing a single book with 3 formats and an metadata.opf file.
Even if my settings ask for <authors> - <title> and the books were stored as Calibre usually does (title - author.ext) the books were imported correctly, with title and author in the correct places. So it seems that Calibre reads the metadata.opf file if adding "one book per directory". Then why do I see the recommendation to never do this, never copy the library, but instead use the Save to disk? Isn't it simpler to just copy the library and import in the new installation/PC/library? For me save to disk fails outputs a few error messages and there are a few missing books.

L.E.3:
Why do I ask this question here and don't test it myself? Because there are about 20.000 books in the library and I'm afraid I'm going to break something; also every save to disk or re-import all would take more than an hour.... I was hoping to find what's best to do, before doing it. Also, If I want to rename the files inside the existing library and that's not the best thing to do... I can't undo it.
Thanks for any input !!!

Hi all,

is it possible to see the Comments (or any metadata for that matter) in the Cover Browser? For example, while hovering the mouse over the cover?

Change date format in fetched news/magazine titles?

$

I'm syncing part of my library including news through Send To Device and one issue that comes up on my device is the news items are not in chronological order because of the automatic date format put into magazine/news titles, "[Thu, 21 May 2015]". I'd really like to change this to a chronological friendly format "[2015-05-21]". Is that possible?

Using subdirectories with the date as the folder title would work for magazines but that would mess up my book subfolder scheme which uses another subfolder format.

One proposal is that since the "News" tag already gets special treatment on device transfer (its own New folder, automatic sync, etc), one additional custom behavior could be to auto convert the "pretty" date in the Calibre title to a "chronological" date on the device.

Maximum issues to keep per news source?

Is there a way to limit the number of news items for a particular news source? I know there is the global "Delete downloaded news older than" setting, but say I have it set to the default 90 days. That gives me 3 issues of my monthly magazines synced to my devices which is nice, but that gives 12 copies of my weekly magazines (and more for daily feeds, etc) which is a bit excessive. It seems like number of issues would be a better global rule in general, or at least an option for each method?

which ADE version do I need ?

I changed my laptop as the old one died so I don't have ADE anymore on my laptop. I had a lot of books to read so it's a long time that I bought a book. I've seen one that I'd like to buy but I guess it'll be DRMed. I have installed Alf apprentice tools in Calibre to remove the DRM but can I instal the last version of ADE or do I need to get an old one, and if so, which one ?
(by the way, I hope there's a way to recover my ID and password with Adobe, as I don't remerber what it was at all :chinscratch: )

Hi

When I seacrh Gutenberg and Archive.org I only get couple books listed which is false because I know the topic includes hundreds of books on both domains. For example when I search for "painting" OI get only couple books. Is there a way to list all the results?

thanks

OSX Updates

Hello,

I am a python dev with objective-c experience with a personal itch to scratch. I love how active the project is, but on macs at least the process of updating calibre is tedious.

If I where interested developing, could I expect any support on implementing a OS X update management system?

I would use sparkle, a BSD licensed, well developed update platform popular on OS X.

In terms of infrastructure all I would need is a rss feed of the latest releases along with links to a xziped version of the app itself.

AZW3 to DOCX Conversion fine except for some Graphics

$

I'm working with my brothers book of cartoons. The conversion of text is fine, as is the cover, but the remainder of the pages containing graphics is cut off on the right hand side.

Everything looks fine in Calibre Viewer, or various Kindle devices, but I would like to make some corrections without having to start from scratch and the DOCX conversion would allow me to add copyright information, then convert back to AZW3.

Am I doing something wrong, or does the DOCX conversion require a tweak?

I'm enclosing the conversion log and jpegs of the problem.

Thanks,

Dan

Pdf to Epub conversion question

I cannot transfer mobi ebooks to Kobo Glo HD on MACOSX

$

Hi there,
I recently bought a Kobo Glo HD and I'm very happy with it.
I have Calibre on Windows 8.1 and macosX.
With Calibre on Windows 8.1 I can transfer mobi ebooks to the ereader ( after correctly specify " mobi" in the device plugin ( in my case it was originally not selected )
If I do exactly the same thing, using Calibre on MacOSX ( yosemite ) Calibre will anyway try to convert the ebook ( .. yes, I restarted Calibre after making the changes in the plug in..=]).

Does anybody have an idea of why and how to fix this?

Thanks
F.

Calibre Back End Integration

$

Good Morning,

I am looking into using Calibre for our company to automate the conversion of PDFs to ePUB. Is this something that would be possible to integrate with our system in order so that Calibre can have the PDFs pushed to it, automatically convert it to ePUB and then push it back to our system with virtually no user interaction. Is this something that Calibre is capable of? Obviously some back end development may be necessary.

Thanks so much,

David
