Others cannot access the content server.

I recently found out that Calibre has a content server to share ebooks with people. So I followed the steps to set it up using this guide https://manual.calibre-ebook.com/server.html

But, for some reason, every time I try to get someone on my home network or on a separate network to access the server it times out and they can't get on.

I've enabled port forwarding, made it so Calibre and its server are allowed through my firewall, and attempted to access it with 2 different browsers to no avail.

Is there any fix for this issue?

GMX Stops Email To Amazon

I just discovered that I have been sending books by email from Calibre to Amazon (using my Kindle address in Amazon) via GMX. However, GMX has stopped automatically sending my emails from Calibre unless I went to the GMX site and authorized the actual email containing the book I want added to my Kindle. It is easy enough to authorize the book, but I cannot find an automatic way to eliminate this annoying step in the process. Will using GMAIL eliminate this problem, or is there an automatic solution using my GMX mail account?:rolleyes:

Is using the Calibre content server illegal?

I was wondering if using the content server was illegal. Will my ISP come down on me for using it? After all its basically hosting your own little torrent site for your friends to read and download books from.

Just wondering, thanks for any replies in advance.

Ho due librerie: nella prima gli autori sono raggruppati in ordine alfabetico e suddivisi per lettera iniziale del cognome, nella seconda invece sono tutti
elencati in ordine alfabetico senza nessun raggruppamento per iniziale.

Calibre 4.2 How to enable sidebar and topbar in Ebook Viewer

Hi guys.

I'm new to Calibre and have just installed Calibre 4.2 for Window 64-bit and there is no Sidebar and Topbar in Ebook Viewer. I have been looking for options to enable them but couldn't find it.

Mine looks like this. There is only the Viewer controls available when pressing Esc

While in a video I found on youtube, it seemed that Ebook Viewer has sidebar and topbar.

:help:i am an avid reader and fan of caliber software by Kovind.
the recent version, calibre 4.2.0 has an inconvenient bug. when i open a ebook, it does not have margin scrolling provision. earlier versions used to have it.
like in pdf document, when you open a pdf, there is a small scrolling provision so that you can use to scroll through.
please restore it in the next version. otherwise it is very difficult to go to earlier pages/ chapters or scroll at convenience.
hope you will do it.

Why has Calibre started to create two directories for each auto imported book?

I have Calibre watch a directory for books magically appears. I made a small python script to check for directories without any number in, i.e. a book title that isn't imported in Calibre.

A lot of diretctories!

Thsi is something that started sometime in April.

Anyone else has seen this?

Calibre 4.2 running on Ubuntu 18.04

This morning for example, three books had appeared in the watch directory...

These three were imported into Calibre, but when I when the authors directory there are:
BookTitle
BookTitle(NNNNN)

for each of the three books.

In the first directory (without the numbers) there are three files:
BookTitle - Author.epub
BookTitle - Author.jpg
BookTitle - Author.opt

In the directory with the numbers there are three files:
cover.jpg
metadata.opf
BookTitle - Author.epub

The book imported in Calibre is linked to the directory with the numbers.

"Username/password required, retrying..." Loop

I've had Calibre-Server up and running on a remote Linux server for a few weeks now and no problems.

As of yesterday however, whenever I connect via one particular browser, I can see that I'm logged in from the landing page, as it shows me the 'Continue Reading...' thumbnail:



But, when I click on the 'Choose Library..' option to view my library, I just get an eternal "Username/password required, retrying..." message:



A look at the browser dev tools console shows that the page is constantly reloading but generating an 'Unauthorized' response:



which makes it look like the login session cookie has become corrupted or expired. So I delete the cookie. But now when I visit the landing page, I'm met with the 'You are not authorised...' error, which I can't clear.



I thought quitting and restarting the browser would bring up the login dialogue again, but it doesn't.

So where do I go from here? I thought deleting the cookie would suffice to trigger a prompt to login again and create a new session. But obviously not.

And, just to reiterate; this has been working fine up until yesterday and the problem only exists with this [Chrome based] browser. I can still visit the site in Firefox and all works fine. So pretty sure the problem lies with the login session on this particular browser. But there doesn't seem to be a user-friendly way to clear / logout the session.

I needed to reistall my SO and all programs, but fortunately I have the backup of all libraries (NOT the EXPORT files)
I have three libraries. In the "welcome wizard" I selected the first library and it is ok.
But I can't add the others libraries; with an other "welcome wizard" I sected the second library and it came in the main page...but the first is not displayed.

Calibre won't communicate with Kobo

Hi. I have used Calibre for several years and it worked great till recently. I installed the new Catalina iOS and the newest version of Calibre. Now every time I open Calibre, I get the message it cannot communicate with device.

Failed to access files in the main memory of your device. You should contact the device manufacturer for support. Common fixes are: try a different USB cable/USB port on your computer. If you device has a "Reset to factory defaults" type of setting somewhere, use it. Underlying error: [Errno 1] Operation not permitted: u'/Volumes/KOBOeReader/driveinfo.calibre'

I have tried changing ports, changing cables, factory resets, manual factory resets, reinstalling calibre, and even reinstalling Catalina. The Kobo app also doesn't appear to talk to the Kobo. But strangely Adobe Digital Editions works.

I have also looked at the "ignored devices" and even though nothing is listed there, clicked reset allowed devices and restore defaults. This seemed to work briefly yesterday and I could connect to the Kobo, but it stopped working when I tried to reinstall the Kobo app. That gives me the message it can't open the software as it can't be verified as non-malicious unless I go into my security settings and open it from there.

I have also tried a debug, and that just tells me that the Kobo Touch is connected and if I want to debug another device to connect it.

Any suggestions?

Please Help! Sending book to Kindle app via calibre

:help:I have looked everywhere I can find, but am not very computer savy. I am using Calibre 4.10 ( I think) and I want to use the MOBI format and send books to a Kindle App on my Samsung galaxy TabA. The program does not let me specify where the book will go. It just allows me to send to the Main storage.I used to be able to send it and I could then see it in Kindle app. Now I can only find it it The cc folder, When I open the internal storage. I can then copy and paste it to the Kindle Folder. What can I do to have it go directly where I want it to go. I have a Nook app, and that doesn't work either.

Can you restore to default in Calibre Editor?

Some time ago, I was able to make very basic changes in the texts of books I was reading where there were scanning errors, or other formatting problems. Somewhere along the way I did something that completely changed what I was looking at on the screen.

Looking at Calibre's Use Manual, it seems to be the File Browser that I'm looking for, but I don't see any control that would bring that to the screen.

So, is there a restore to default option anywhere?

Timestamp field for latest additions to library?

How can I list "latest additions to library" or "latest books edited entries" (library view)

Is there a way to implement an automatic date timestamp field for when was the entry last edited?

Scenario:
Create a virtual library with latest additions and another for the latest edited

The virtual library would have a code like this

timestamp:>5daysago
Note: date:>5daysago as told in the https://manual.calibre-ebook.com/gui...arch-interface don't work for me as the date field can already be filled in a different library and when I move it to a second library the book comes along with a sidecar opf file that specifies its own calibre:timestamp (or if importing it from a zip file created after a "save to disk" from another computer).

So I would require an individual library:timestamp (even if it would be one that would not survive a library restore!)

IO error started to happen

I get this error message when starting up. Cannot add new books, other parts of program just shut down instantly. I have tried reinstalling calibre 3 times, both 32 and 64 bit.

I've run chkdsk, and there is no error. I think this may be a Windows update issue. I have not been able to rollback latest windows updates (they immediately reinstall themselves).

There is an "Internet Speculative Fiction Database" (http://www.isfdb.org) which has hundreds of contributed covers for Sci-Fi and Fantasy.

All covers are CONTRIBUTED and no charge is required to access them (you don't even have to have a membership to use the database.)

Is there any possibility of adding this as a source for COVERS?

Use external browser for lookup-word in Calibre-4.1

I've upgraded my installation of Calibre after a very long time and was pleased and grateful to see so much improvement. The most striking change would definitely be the use of internal browser for `Lookup-word` and `Inspector`.

But the pop-up of the browser really mess up the text of the book. I could keep the lookup section in floating mode, but I don't want to do that because it clutters up too much space. I'd rather use the previous functionality where the `Lookup word` command would open up a browser tab in an external browser. It would be better for my workflow.

Setting metadata from ebook files

If I explore an old library, and discover it has no tags or is missing a lot of metadata that would normally show, and it it NOT a restored library, will setting the metadata from ebook files be the same as restoring?

Also, is there a way to select which ebook file is being restored?

I have a lot of mixed formats in the folders and was wondering if it will always use the .epub or if it will use a specific or all?

Anyway of choosing how that goes? If there is a way of setting the files in a hierarchical or use all files in the hierarchical?


For example, I would like to use the .epub files to set the titles because the .azw3 will have the pre-edited Amazon titles. However, I want to grab the tags and other metadata from all the files.

Not sure how that would go about, but if there was a way of selecting the order this will help with bulk editing.

Content servers web page in Chrome

Hi.
I'm having trouble with accessing the web site on all my browsers.
It just hangs on the loading page, and all I can do is go to the mobile option.
This is very limited, and the search i giving me very inaccurate results.
Since Chrome no longer supports Java, what can I do to get this page to load correctly?
I'm using Chrome version 78.0.3904.70
I've also tried other browsers like Opera, Vivaldi, IE and Edge. All with the same result.

They all just hangs on the:
Loading, please wait…
