calibre not starting
Unfortunately, calibre does not start unter Win 10 cereaors: s. The message.
The same with previous versions. Googling: many have such a problem. Recommended solutions have been ineffective. An idea?

Viewer Find text box looses focus during find again ?
Hi Forum. New to Calibre and the forum. So far I'm really enjoying the product, thank you. I just tried looking for a string and noticed that if I continue to press enter with the find text box active that viewer will repeat the search, but at some point the find text book looses focus and the enter key no longer works. If I then make box active again I can continue to search, but eventually focus is gone again. Expected behavior ?

Questions/devices/cloud
I have spent many hours and months on this and still have a difficult time as a non-talented, non-technical newbie. I am hoping someone can figure out if this is possible to do.
I loaded books to Calibre about 15k maybe... or about 80 gigs worth of books, not all mine I share mum; however, I am the only one that has a computer or works with a computer. I have gotten my 80 something bedridden mum to read books on a tablet so I have been trying to find all her printed books in a mobile format. She loves reading this way as she can make the print HUGE.
I have and share also:
Kindle Fire 6
Kindle Fire 7 (2015)
Paperwhite about 3 years old
Kindle Voyager
3 Android devices
What I am trying to do is to put in a cloud so that any of those devices can download books. I am not sure how to do this as well.
What I want to do is to make sure on all the devices it shows as:
{series}{series_index:0>2s| [|] }{title}
Example: Codex Alera [02] Academ's Fury
and of course sorted by author as well
Is this possible?
If it is possible what are some ways it can be achieved?
Also, keep in mind that I have spent a while reading the manual etc and learning from trial and error and do not have any special talents like the people on these boards do. Simple terms:help::o
I do "send to kindle" from my pc but it doesn't show the series and number on the kindle and or android as well. I have all my books on pc unless there are books that came directly from amazon.

Issue conversion CBR to PDF
Hello,
I have been using Calibre for long time to convert CBR into PDF and have some issues now.
From time to time (let say 30%), I'm facing this error :
UnicodeWarning: Unicode equal comparison failed to convert both arguments to Unicode - interpreting them as being unequal
I have upgraded with the latest Calibre version without succes
Any idea how to move forward ?

calibre-server: some logging thoughts ...
Today I started my first encounter with the new calibre server: it is really a nice job and works well for my limited humble usage purposes :thumbsup: Nice job!
I noticed that there is some logging which can be obtained via configuration. I just wondered whether the following thoughts possibly could improve its usage:

- a "clear" function to empty the log-file(s);
- a log-file "max size" setting, after which the logs just "roll-over";
- a choice to place the logs in some non-default location;
- the possibility to see real-time logging (similar to unix tail -f);

Calibre 3 adding metadata to KF8
I'm using Calibre 3.4. When I go to edit a KF8 format eBook, I'm finding it's adding metadata to the OPF. I've set the options to not update the metadata. So can this please be fixed?

Reading file metadata with "add_books"
Hi there! I have been using the database interface API's "add_books" to great success, but one thing I have not grasped yet is how to instruct calibre to attempt to read metadata, extract a cover image, etc. from added files. What's the right way to go about this after utilizing "add_books" and getting the list of newly added book ids? Appreciate your time.

Calibre Web Server add send to email/kindle
Is possible to add additional controls in Calibre web interface to allow sending to email (i.e. send to Kindle via email)? This is possible in the main GUI, but would be useful in the web interface. The settings (i.e. email address) could be configured in the main GUI.

Upload to Google Play Books
Is there anyway of automating the uploading of a ebook to Google Play Books? It is possible to download (in ePUB, etc) and then upload via the web interface or on Android the app. It would be useful if this could be done directly in GUI in way similar to send to email.

I am using Calibre 3.4 on a Windows server and accessing calibre-server via Google chrome. All seems two be well except I can see now way to manage books that have been "read" on chrome. For example, If I click on a title and select "Read", the app opens the book and allows me to read.
The next time I access my calibre library, that book is listed at the top Under "Continue Reading". That might be handy, except that they never leave, even after I've read the book. There is no function in the browse or in Calibre that I can see to turn this off or to indicate I am finished with the book.
How can I stop or control this behavior so that the web page does not show the last book accessed?

fixed layout format
I have a children's epub in fixed layout format (created with InDesign). The Editor displays each page correctly, the text and images are in the right place, but the E-book Viewer throws the text and images all over the place. Is fixed layout format supported in Calibre?

Extending Download Cover results
Hi
It would be nice if the Download COver window also offers unfiltered results for the cover in search? Some books does not generate any "cover" from the current web sources but I can see sometimes that images.google or images.bing can offer more results. These web image results can be offered at the bottom of the list so they are given less priority over main search results.

Synchronizing two or more libraries in Calibre
I have been using Calibre for several years.
Over those years I have backed up my Calibre Library.
My backup software and/or procedures have changed over those years.
So I now have a few copies of "Calibre Library" spread over multiple drives.
Is there any way to synchronize two somewhat different libraries ?
For instance, two of my libraries differ by a few hundred books as shown by the book count in Calibre.
I would be most grateful for any help or suggestions.

Moon+Reader won't download books from Calibre Content Server
Post edited because I found the solution to the problem (I could see my Calibre library from Moon+Reader after both computer & tablet were updated, but couldn't download books). I discovered that in the more current versions of Moon+Reader and/or Calibre, the two connect better if instead of just entering the displayed IP address on the content server into Moon+Reader, you need to add a new connection, at which point Moon+Reader provides "local Calibre server" as an option. Using that, and entering the correct ip address, restores the functionality I had in my previous installations with a more manual setup.
I didn't find a way to just delete this post, so now instead of a request for help it describes the solution - hopefully someone else will find it helpful.

Empty folders when adding books
I installed Calibre 3.4.0 yesterday (Win 7 64-bit) and when I wanted to add books it showed the folders as empty, it couldn't find any files, although they were in there. Even when showing all file types nothing was found.
I downloaded 3.4.0 again and let it repair the installation. This fixed the problem for now.

Manage Calibre Library with two Calibre Instances
I have a Debian 8 server with Calibre 2.50 installed. system.d starts a calibre-server, through scripts I can import and convert bebooks. Ebooks are served through server for Tolino and Kindle readers.
The Database/Library is on server /path_to_server/calibre and can be accessed through Samba and NFS.
I want to work on metadata of this library from remote. I stopped the running calibre-server with
Now I want to mount the database from my remote Calibre installation (I chose /path_to_server/calibre as path for library in this installation), but it always says database is locked (read only). Since web-calibre does not offer editing-function, I have to go this way. Alternatively I would have to create the entire database/library on my local system and copy it to the server. This works, but is nasty for any changes.
How can I resolve this.
My remote Calibre version is 3.4. Should I downgrade to the older one?
I know that a remote database on a NAS/Server is not recommended. I do a lot of backuping here to prevent errors.

Huge icons after update
Hi all,
after year after year of perfect usage today I had the first problem ;)
I upgraded from 2.8 to 3.4 and when I launched the program I saw a huge program, huge icons, huge column sizes.
I went to the icons settings but it is set to small :chinscratch:
What happened?

Migrating library from Mac to Linux
Searched the forums, but didn't find a working solution, so I thought I'd ask this here...
I'm moving my Calibre library from my old Intel based Mac to an Ubuntu box. I exported the library data from the Mac and copied all the files it to the Ubuntu box, but when I try to import it, I get this message:
The folder /home/calibre/IMPORTME is not valid: The first part of this exported data set is missing
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "site-packages/calibre/gui2/dialogs/exim.py", line 257, in select_import_folder
File "site-packages/calibre/utils/exim.py", line 262, in __init__ ValueError: The first part of this exported data set is missing
I copied the 100GB of files over without a hitch, so, what am I missing? Are the library exports not compatible across Mac / Linux?
