When I try to relaunch, Calibre restarts, the dialog box telling me I'm in debug mode comes up, but everything is overlaid by the Calibre splash icon. When I click on the splash icon my Mac just "beeps", and ditto when I click on the main screen. I have to try to find part of the dialog box and drag it clear of the splash icon so I can click on the "OK" button. Why is the splash icon covering up the dialog box?

Book covers suddenly reverts once Wi-Fi is enabled?
Recently I've edited some Amazon books by simply swapping the cover to a better one via Calibre. Sometimes I convert the file to AZW, or leave it as the default.
But now when I connect my Kindle to Wi-Fi, some (but not my older edits from last year) will revert to the original cover. So I have to delete them from my kindle, re-edit, send to device, ad nauseum.
What am I doing wrong? I NEVER click 'sync & check for downloads' on my Kindle because I know that does for sure undo all edits.

conversion to azw3 with cover showing in Kindle
Hello folks,
I am trying the whole day to reach this:
See the cover when opening it on Kindle for the first time.
In detail:
I am writing a book and its ready and fine.
I convert the openoffice odt file via calibre into an azw3 file
and load the converted book via USB to my kindle D01100.
But when I look at the book to check the result of my doings it always
starts behind the cover, not showing the cover itself.
I would have to push the previous-page button to see the cover which I feel
as a bad way when a user looks first time at the new bought book.
This seem to be a universal problem because I found the mentioning of
this eefect several times in the internet.
Now I try the solution.
I want to tell Kindle via Calibre to take the cover as starting point for reading.
Calibre itself offers the option to do this during conversion with the argument:
Start reading at (XPATH-Expression)
Does anyone know if this gives a solution for the problem and what I would
have to write there?
I got already the basic line which says:
//h:a[@name='start'] which works if I write "start" into my document.
But how to do this with my cover picture?
Maybe anyone has a good idea for me...
or any other good hint (but please no workaround with two pictures etc.)

I'm new to the forum and hope someone can help. I've been using Calibre with Kindle on my iPad 2 quite happily for many months. But now I am getting an error when I connect:

Kindle and Nook to Kobo Glo HD
Hey guys, so I've bought books from both Nook and Kindle to identical results. I add them to my Calibre library with the Alf Apprentice plugin installed. Now with the Nook format epubs I don't have to worry about conversion, with the Kindle format I do. Basically after it's been added to my library I copy the files to a folder called "Books" on my Kobo alternatively with Kindle I convert to epub and do the same. Both give me an identical document, in which the font size is atrociously large. The page numbers usually last for two page turns. I understand why the page has been divided into two parts because of the large font size. I've played with the font settings and algorithms when converting the Kindle documents.
What am I missing, is there a way to get these documents working like a normal Kobo book? Ideally I would like to lower the font size without having to adjust the settings on my Kobo and maybe have the progress tracked as well as having it count the number of pages left in the chapter instead of the book. Eventually I'd like to tidy up the layout etc. Is there an update I don't have? A general tool? A plugin? Is there a better program that simplifies all of this? Or will I just need to experiment with the available settings?

Unix timestamps when adding books
Is there an easy way to get calibre to use the unix timestamps for added files when setting the date, published date, and/or modified date fields? Populating any one of these would be sufficient for my purposes. The problem is that I am using calibre to manage a large set of scanned PDFs. The unix timestamps of these pdfs are very important for sorting. However, I cannot seem to get calibre to read them into any of its date fields. It always seems to assign the current date to all the files. I'm probably missing something very basic. I could write a script to stat all the files and edit the database appropriately -- but I'd rather do it the right way (and avoid the extra work) if possible. Any help would be much appreciated.

After upgrade to Win 10, Calibre upgrades do not install
Recently upgraded to Windows Windows 10 from Windows 7 with Calibre 2.44 installed. After upgrade Calibre works fine, but new versions do not install. I get to the "Calibre Setup" dialog box, but the status line does not start (even after waiting a long time) and new version does not start. Have disabled virus protection, no help. Other programs install and upgrade with no problem.

Can't add CBZ files to Shield Tablet
On the NVidia Shield tablet, I cannot figure out how to send cbz files directly to the tablet which has Calibre Companion installed via the Wireless Devices connection.
I tried looking for the plugin settings but couldn't find one for the Shield despite Calibre recognizing the device. Anyone with any hints as to how to get it to just send the cbz files and not attempt to convert them?

Polish Books does not update ratings
I noticed today that the Polish Books option does not appear to update the Ratings value stored in my ePub files to match the value I have set in Calibre. Is this intentional or a bug?
If I use the Modify ePub plugin to update the metadata then it DOES update the stored Ratings value.

Changeover to portable version
I use Calibre since about 7 month. Now I want to change to the portable version. But I can't reach to get my library (of course not under the folder Calibre Portable) as my favorit library. I changed the library in Calibre and killed the Calibre Library. The program confirmed that the library is killed. But the next time I open Calibre this library is there again and I have to change to my own library again. What can I do?

I must be doing something wrong
I was right in the middle of editing two of my books for Amazon when it stopped saving changes. No idea why. I tried rebooting my PC. No luck. I'm converting from Mobi to Epub to edit & saving & then back to Mobi which has worked like a charm until now.
Thought maybe it would help if I went ahead & did the update but can't find it now.

Portuguese language
Last version of Calibre (2.49) changed language "Português" to "Português (Portugal)" . We just can't understand why?! What about portuguese from Brasil and other portuguese speaking countries? Now it seams that all my brasilian and Mozambique and Angola books are all in Portuguese from Portugal wich is not true. And I can't change it! Please go back to "português".

Sending books to Kindle, page count, own calculation method in the custom column

I would like to calculate the number of pages while sending books to my Kindle using my own method. The method is simple, for me it is the number of pages retrieved by Calibre "accurate" method multiplied by 1.4 . Calibre offers the following solution:

Kobo not recognized anymore
Hi All,
I hope that you can help me. I have two Kobo readers (Glo HD and Aura). Both used to work perfectly with Calibre, but since a few weeks they are not being recognized anymore.
I'm running Win 10 with Calibre ver. 2.49 and Kobo firmware ver. 3.16.576. Both readers are correctly recognized in Windows (drive letter assigned) and by the Kobo App.
