Images are left justified after conversion - what am I doing wrong?

I created my manuscript in Open Office and saved as an html file.
I added this to Calibre.
I converted to MOBI.

Everything works fine, including hyperlinks etc.

Only problem is images. I use a small image for scene breaks. They appear fine when I look at the html file. They are all centred.

In the conversion to mobi, they are all there, but have changed position and are now left justified.

What am I doing wrong?:blink:

Onyx Boox T68 Lynx USB Problem

I had posted this question in the Onyx Boox section, but no one was able to help, so I am asking again in the Calibre section.

I have been using my Onyx Boox T68 Lynyx for about ten months now and I have enjoyed it. But recently I have encountered a new problem when connecting to Calibre via USB cable.

I am no longer able to add an epub to my device using a USB cable. Right click / Send to Device / Send specific format to / always results in the epub being converted to azw3 format.

To try to fix this, I have done a factory re-set. I have updated the firmware. I have done another factory re-set. Still, I can't send epub format to the device from Cailbre using the USB connection.

I am able to copy the file from the computer to the device by dragging and dropping from a file manager ... but not through Calibre.

Interestingly, I have no problem at when when using Calibre Companion. I transfer epubs easily.

Any suggestions?

How do I add image files to my library with thumbnails in the "cover" view?

Hi everyone,

I use Calibre to catalog my entire library of digital files (ebooks, documents, audio/video files, and images). How do I get the program to provide a thumbnail preview of an image file in the side panel where book covers are usually visible?

Secondly, is there a plugin that will download meta data and covers for Audio and Video files?

I have posted this question elsewhere but have never received a response.

Error: Permission Denied

After I have a book in Calibre, after I add metadata and cover, I ok it and I get the message:" Permission Denied. Could not change the on disc location of this book. Is it open in another program."

It doesn't happen with every book, maybe every other. Its very annoying. Why is this happening. It never happened before.

Calibre 2.38.0 does not recognize my new Kindle Paperwhite

Calibre 2.38.0 does not recognize my new Kindle Paperwhite.

Upgraded to Win 10 from Win 7 weeks ago. Never had a Kindle. Now I have a new Kindle Paperwhite. It is tethered. There are no other devices tethered. The toolbar does not change when it is connected, so there are no entries for “Send to device” or “Device”. “Send to Device” from book (right click) ->“Send to main memory” is grayed out. Windows 10 DOES recognize the Kindle as my Drive F. I can drag a .mobi into the Kindle PW as Drive F. The Kindle is NOT in the excluded list. Toolbar setup when device connected is correct (i.e. includes device buttons). I have restarted the Kindle PW and the PC multiple times. I have followed all the tips in the message thread, including using two different cables.

Rebuilding after crash

So yesterday my harddrive seemed to take issue with polishing too many books after downloading new covers and in the process killed my metadata.db and calibre install.

Luckily I'm sometimes smarter than I look and I have a full working backup of my books with updated metadata (excluding those new covers) and a copy of my calibre prefs folder.

So far I've uninstalled calibre and installed a fresh copy, now what comes next?

Switch out the prefs folder, install new copies of my plugins, rebuild the library?

I'd like to get it back to what I had custom columns and all as much as possible but not sure the order of things to get there.

Right now, you'd click the book(s), press E)dit metadata, then click the download button, and sometimes it find more than 1 possible match, you click the line you want, click OK. Then it adds the tags, the book cover, and book description.

Is there a way it can do this automatically when importing a new book, and if so, how does it choose if theres multiple matches? thank you

I love Calibre and and appreciate the work you have put into it.

One of its' features I use a lot is the Tag Browser. I therefore wondered if you had enhancements to it on your ToDo list.

N.B. I am not asking what they are or when they will be implemented, just if you are planning Tag Browser enhancements.

Is recent calibre versions need more power & works slower in old laptops?

I was using calibre 2.35 64 bit and recently updated to 2.39 and it seems slower to import new books/documents from folders on my desktop.

Has anyone experienced slowness situation in recent versions or it is just me and my laptop is getting slower?

XP update?

I'm using XP machine, version 1.48 Calibre. The software offered me an automatic update, but I chose not to update. Should I allow the update? I was afraid the new version wouldn't work properly.

Also, I see a cover editor mentioned, but my version doesn't show this in the software. Is it available for 1.48 or for XP?

Is there some way I can import the list of tags from my current library into a new library so that the tags are available for auto completion? I really like this feature and it will help me to keep tags under control. Thanks

Found a simple way to transfer books from Calibre on PC to an iPad

I was not able to get my iPad recognized by Calibre using the device plugin. I then went for a WiFi connection, connecting to the Calibre server. This displays the Calibre web page. It's absolutely fine except I could find no way to import more than one book at a time - I have 6000 in Calibre!

I looked around for an alternative and stumbled upon a freeware app called Syncios (there is a pro version also). I installed Syncios on the PC ensuring that iTunes was not running (as advised). It tells you to connect your device (iPad for me). Once it's discovered you have options to import music, videos, pdf files or books. The easiest way I found to import multiple books was to make sure that the books I want to import are in the Calibre library and that Calibre is running. Highlight the books you want, right click and select export to disc. This gives you all your books in one folder! In Syncios, I selected Import and browsed to the book folder I had created, highlighted all my books and clicked OK. All my books = 107 of them, were imported in under 30 seconds.

When you eject the device from Syncios. open iBooks and all your imported books will be there.

Not sure how clear this appears to you (my bad) but it really is so quick and simple - mo need for itunes, no need to use Calibre for other than giving you access to books in your library.

I just wanted to pass this on as it takes all of the pain out of transferring your books to an iOS device.

[djvumaker installation] Help with calibre-debug

I'm trying to install 'djvumaker'.

I'm following the instructions on the github page:

However, I can't get calibre-debug working to install the plugin's dependencies.

I tracked it down in the MacOS directory, where the command line tools for OSX are located. However, I can't get calibre debug to do anything. Terminal says 'command not found' when I try and run it via the command line.

Any suggestions?

Calibre in Win 8.1, Installation failure?

I am trying to install calibre in a win 8.1 machine. Downloaded 2.39 through firefox, chrome and IE. All had the dame failure.

The file it says I need permission for does not exist.

I carried a 2.38 that I had used previously on a win 7 machine successfully, to the win 8.1 machine and got the same failure.

Is there something special about 8.1 and calibre?

[BUG] Order of selections in Remove Style Information shift around

The order of the selections in the "Remove Style Information" dialog shifts around. Not a really big deal, but I sometimes find myself selecting the wrong option and only seeing that at the last second.

Error Message with Calibre & Calibre Companion

Have been using Calibre & Calibre Companion for way over a year with my LG G70 phone with no problem. Have always stored my eBooks on my 32GB mini SD Card. Yesterday I upgraded to an LG G Stylo. Again, everything seemed to be working flawlessly. Started off with clean state. Again chose to store books on mini SD Card. Uploaded some books onto phone with no problem then had to go to sleep. Today I'm trying to add some more books to the phone & I get the following error message from Calibre:

Hi,sorry for my poor english and my poor calibre knowledge.
I have 2 quick questions for managing my small library. I hope i'm in the right section of the forum:D

1) Is there a way to have in the "main page" (i think is "Authors" ) a custom order of the books that doesn't depend from author name,title ecc.? I just want to switch position of the books like in a proper library.

2)Is there a way to pile series book ? Let's say i have the serie of harry potter and i want that in my library is showed as "Harry Potter" and not all the seven books so that i have a compact view of my library. I know i can create "series" but i don't find i way to pile the serie.

Only keep x days of news downloads

I am making all of my news downloads work via script files and want an easy way to limit the amount of news downloads for a particular recipe to x number of days. Is there an easy way to do it? I could probably do it in a bash script but am not that familiar with it.

Also, I and using

Hallo.

One of the new features is described as follows:

Implement tag mapping to automatically filter/transform tags when adding books or downloading metadata
Now you can create simple rules that will filter/transform the tags when adding new books or downloading metadata for books. To setup the rules, go to Preferences->Adding books and Preferences->Downloading metadata.

Where is Preferences->Adding books and Preferences->Downloading metadata?

Problem with conversion and an error that may be unintended normal behaviour

I find that when I convert an epub, 2 files are generated ("epub" and "original_epub") which I understand is the expected normal behaviour of calibre in trying to retain the original epub.

Unfortunately, I always run into the problem where if I use the editor window or remove book command and delete the newly converted epub because I want to go back and try different settings with the original epub, I always get an error trying to convert the "original_epub" file where calibre spits out the "could not convert x or x books because no supported source formats were found".

Given removal of the epub and leaving the "original_epub" behind to be used should be an expected behaviour of some calibre users. I can see how calibre needs to have a way of separating the original and any converted epubs in the database and does so by renaming files, but there needs to be some workflow allowing us to "roll back" to the original epub in our databases.

Maybe I'm missing an obvious step to doing this, but I couldn't see a way to do this in the manual or when I search the forums. Thanks for any help.
