Fonts appeared scrambled; lines of text out of alignment

When opened in Calibre, some pages of my epub ebook contain scrambled fonts and/or some lines of text are out of alignment with the rest of the paragraphs.

When opened in Adobe Digital Editions, all of the above issues disappeared.

What could be the reason(s)?
